Description of the Project
The project is a part of the `Melen Greater Istanbul Water Supply Project Stage II` consists of the construction of 69.5 km of 2540 mm spirally welded steel pipeline between Melen Header Tank, (Sakarya) and Kincilli Ridge (Kocaeli) Transmission Main.
The work includes the excavation to form working platform, transportation of the pipes from stockyard to construction site, trench excavation, laying and fully automatically welding of pipes, supplying and installation of 6 pieces of line valves in 2000 mm diameter and coating of joints, supplying and erecting of mechanical equipment and cathodic protections and hydrostatic test.
The pipeline was completed and taken into the operation to supply water from Melen River to Ömerli Dam as of 19th October 2007. The capacity of the pipeline is 268 million cubic meter per year. At this stage the project will supply water demanded by Istanbul till year 2020.
